  REPORT OF CBSE NORTH ZONE CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

K.R. MANGALAM WORLD SCHOOL

This tournament  based on the Swiss league format,is a team championship event and is considered to be one of the toughest Inter-School tournaments of Northern India. A total  of 32 schools participated in U-14 Boys category, 11 schools in U-14 Girls, 42 schools in U-19 Boys and 9 schools in U-19 Girls category. Our school participated in all the above categories. There were 5 rounds in the Boys Section and 4 rounds in the Girls Section in both categories.

Highlights of the event were as follows:

The name of the top scorers/winners in the school:

  •   Tanay Sharma and Rishi Sardana of VI B & C were the top scorers with 5/5.
  •  Tanay Sharma and Rishi Sardana also won the Board Prize (Best performance on their boards in  the whole tournament) on first and second boards.    
  • It was a good exposure for our team and quite satisfying performance as we didn’t lose against any team and got selected for the Nationals.
  • Our steam got selected to play at the National level tournaments.
  • In the U-14 Girls category,in the 4th (Final) round we had a match against Mount Carmel School, Dwarka and won with a comfortable margin of 4-0.
  • Kinnari Jain and Vaaruni Mahajan, of Class VI and VII respectively scored 4/4 and 2/3 .
  • Vaaruni was also adjudged the best player of the tournament on the fifth board.
  • Ishant Soni of XII was the top scorer with a score of 4/5. Ankit Verma and B. Lalith Kumar also performed well with a score of 3.5/5.
