CLASS ACTIVITIES 2009- 10

CLASS- I

a) Collage Making using leaves - This was a very interesting activity in which the students participated enthusiastically. They made beautiful and colorful collages using different types of leaves. The activity not only enhanced their creativity but they also learnt about different types of leaves and their colours.

   

b) Noun Activity - This was another fun activity in which the children learnt about the concept of nouns and interpreted pictures. The students brought cut outs and pictures of different animals, places, persons and things. They made a collage of it followed by a discussion with their teachers.

   

c) Newspaper Day - An interesting activity which not only builds the confidence of the kids but also improves their fluency in English speaking skills. The students carry a newspaper article and read it in front of the entire class. A sheer delight to hear them speak so confidently!!

   
d) Teaching place value in Mathematics - Children of Class I were introduced to the concept of Tens and Ones through an interesting activity. They were asked to carry bangles and bindis from home , make circles for tens house and stick 10 bindis in it, and respective number of bindis outside the house, for ones. It was a fun filled activity, where the concept of place value ( tens and ones ) was clearly understood.

e) Abacus making activity: Inorder to reiterate the concept of tens and ones –another activity was conducted in the classroom. Students made an abacus apparatus using beads made of play dough, pencils and thermocol .Children really found the activity very interesting with fun value attached to it.

f) A Diwali Celebrations:

Children in Class- I made beautiful Diyas, Chandeliers ( Lanterns ) and Diwali cards to carry to their homes.
The concept of, “Say No to Crackers” was also explained with its disadvantages. Children were told to celebrate Diwali in an environment friendly manner.

g) English Poem Recitation Activity

Held on – October 23, 2009

The students of class – II participated in this activity to exhibit their talent and creativity as they learnt and recited their own composition.
A variety of poems were recited by the children on the topic of ‘My favorite Toy’ where children were beaming with enthusiasm and had enjoyed reciting & listening to the poems.
The effort put in by them and their parents are worth appreciating. In all, the activity helped to the students to be more expressive and confident.

h) T- SHIRT PAINTING

With the aim of environmental awareness, Class V’s monthly activity in October was ‘T- SHIRT PAINTING.’ The topic for the same was ‘GO GREEN’

Save The PlanetThe students carried old discarded t–shirts; practising reuse of 3 Rs. All the students came prepared with images / slogans that gelled with the topic – GO GREEN.
The material required for the above activity - pot of water, paint, fine and thick paint brushes and marker pens etc was provided by school.

All the students actively participated in the same. They were proud to paint their own t– shirts. Through this learning experience the students were able to express their opinion on importance of taking care of mother Earth. The students wore their self painted t – shirts and went about in school; spreading the message of planet conservation.

i) CLASS I: Show and Tell

In November Children of class I made animals using play dough and spoke a few lines about them. The activity not only enhanced their confidence but also sharpened their usage of motor skills.

 
   

French activity for the month of November

All the enthusiastic French learners of   Show and Tell participated in a French activity on 12th Nov 09. The theme of the activity was “Ce que mes amis pensent de moi” where children keenly wrote adjectives and nouns about their classmates on handmade sheets in French, learnt in the lesson lately. It was a fun learning experience for them as they took great interest in participating for the first time in a French activity.

j) ENGLISH : Class V had a collage making activity in November,  where they had a choice to either make a collage on  the various ‘boarding schools’ in India or on cuttings to the ‘letters’ sent to Editors. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity which fostered their knowledge and creativity.

k) EVS: SHOW & TELL: Children of Class-I made animal/ bird home using readily available waste material. Eg: pencil shavings, old pieces of cloth etc. It was a  fun activity using waste materials and the children learnt that beautiful things can be made out of materials considered waste by us

l) MATHS: CLOCK MAKING ACTIVITY
To understand the concept of time and be able to read time from a clock, children were asked to make a simple clock showing both the hands of the time.
Various types of clocks were made by the children using thermocol, cardboard and straws to show the hour and minute hand. Little ones enjoyed moving the time hands themselves to understand their daily routine

 
   

EVS : SHOW AND TELL

To make children aware about different types of birds in our surroundings, children of class I were asked to bring feathers belonging to different categories of birds, such as peacock, pigeon, parrots, crow, sparrow etc. Some unusual varieties of feathers  such as eagle, patridge, white parrot, skylark and swans were also on display. Children also  gained  knowledge about importance of wings in birds.

EVS: WATER EXPERIMENT

On 16 Dec 2009, an experiment was conducted in Class I to determine about objects that float / sink in water. Various objects such as feather, leaf, cork, plastic ball, paper, stone, pen, cricket ball, eraser were put in a large glass bowl filled with water to determine whether they float or sink. The students found the experiment very interesting and enjoyed carrying it out.

French Activity for the month of December 

All the French learners of class V participated in the second French activity with great enthusiasm where they made their best attempts to translate their class time-table in French in a creative manner. This activity came out to be a brain storming experience for them, making them enjoy every bit of it.

The tiny-tots from Nursery, K.G. and Class 1 celebrated the ‘Christmas Week’ with great enthusiasm. They made beautiful cards, stockings and decorated their classes using Christmas trees, stars, confetti etc. There was also a carol singing session for the kids. The icing on the cake was the Christmas Presentation by Class IV students on 24th December, which conveyed the story of birth of Christ and the essence behind celebrating Christmas. The joy and the spirit of Christmas could be felt in air and touched everyone’s heart.

EVS : EXPERIMENT ON AIR
In the month of December, using straw, water and empty glass, children of Class I were explained and shown the presence of air.  Bubbles were made to show the presence of air. The kids thoroughly enjoyed carrying out the experiment.

INTRA CLASS ACTIVITY (February)
Class-I:  EVS:
Two very interesting activities were conducted in Class I in the month of February. In one of the activities, the children had to speak a few lines on themselves. They spoke about their favourite food, their favourite game and their interests. The activity enhanced their confidence and improved their public speaking skills.

The other activity was a quiz on ‘PLANTS.’ The activity was not only exciting for the young learners but also enabled them to recapitulate the topic.
